#1. Why don't you put an expiration date on your product? We do not put an expiration date on our product because it is sold frozen. Stores decide if they want to sell it frozen or thawed. If we put an expiration date on it for frozen, it would be good for 2 years. Then if the store put it out to sell thawed, the expiration date would be incorrect. When we cook our product, we put the Julian date (a date showing the year first and then the day of the year with January 1 as 001 & December 31 as 365) on it for the day it is produced - chili produced today would be dated 08017. The stores should put a sticker date for 30 days on the product when they put it out to sell thawed. If you purchase it frozen, it should be good once it thaws in your fridge for 30 days. It is good frozen for 2 years from the Julian date. These results are from the shelf life studies conducted by the West Virginia Department of Agriculture. #2. Can Custard Stand Hot Dog Chili be refrozen? If you have thawed your CSHDC properly (overnight in the refrigerator is recommended) you can take out the portion you want to use and refreeze the rest. We recommend that you seperate it at this time into whatever portions you want to serve. Repeated thawing & refreezing will result in a loss of flavor. You CAN NOT refreeze your CSHDC if you thawed it in the microwave or heated it & want to refreeze the leftovers.
